Riveting throughout the entire book!

The book Broken Dreams & Second Chances is a mixture of telling the tales of four people's lives - you get engrossed in the characters from their "coming of age" moments when they are growing up, and experiencing the successes and failures of life. The author does an excellent job telling you just enough about their family so you feel like you personally know them. By the time you get to chapter 11 and the trip to Antigua you are cheering for them and hoping things work out. Now that I am finished the book - I am anxious and hopeful that the author will be writing a sequel so I can hear more about Kate, Janet, Rick and Shane and how their lives are now.
Buy this book you will not be disappointed - you will laugh, cry, be happy, be sad, be angry, be hopeful and you will easily fall in love with the characters and root for them as they experience life and the ups and downs it brings to everyone.

Broken Dreams & Second Chances was a surprisingly good read. I say surprisingly not because I didn't expect it to be good, but because it is not typical of the kind of book I would normally read. The book follows the stories of a number of characters from their time as teens up until their forties. There were times when I found myself getting frustrated with the actions of some characters and almost yelling at the page over the choices they made. Clearly I was becoming invested in the characters. There were even of few moments when you might actually shed a tear. Each character is quite different and deals with their issues in a different way. There will definitely be one or two that you will be able to relate to.
If you like stories about real life type characters, then I highly recommend that you read Broken Dreams & Second Chances.

Dream realized in first novel

In this, her first novel, Kat Mack starts from the place her characters do... in their youth. As the novel progresses and the characters age, the novelist's style becomes more mature. The characters are relatable, infuriating, funny and exasperating in turn. The interactions become more complex as the book unfolds. While the characters are taken on a journey through time they grow in their understanding of the world. The writer gave me more than I expected from a first novel. When her next book comes out, I'll be one of the first to read it.
