About the Author

Faye Z. Belgrave (Ph.D., University of Maryland) is Professor of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University and founder and director of the Center for Cultural Experiences in Prevention. Her programmatic and research interests are in the areas of HIV and substance abuse prevention. Her research focuses on the role of culture and context in preventive interventions and on issues of gender and women. Dr. Belgrave has published extensively and is an invited speaker on these topics. In collaboration with community partners, she has implemented several prevention programs targeting African American adolescents, women, and young adults. These programs have been beneficial in increasing cultural attributes and in preventing and/or decreasing drug use and associated negative behaviors. Dr. Belgrave serves as an expert advisor on several national committees and agencies including the American Psychological Association, the National Institute of Drug Abuse, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency, and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. She is the recipient of many national awards for her work with African American populations including the Association of Black Psychologists Distinguished Psychologists Award and the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program Dalmas Taylor Award for a distinguished career in psychology.

Kevin W. Allison is Senior Assistant to the President of Virginia Commonwealth University and a Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. He completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Notre Dame and his graduate work in clinical-community psychology at DePaul University in Chicago. Prior to joining the VCU faculty, Dr. Allison worked at Pennsylvania State University and served as the Clincal Director of City Lights in Washington, DC. Dr. Allison′s work has focused on understanding and addressing processes that support positive developmental outcomes for African American children and youth. This has included the examination of life skills and culturally informed interventions for youth and work with community-based human services providers.

Great book from Michael Clarke

Great book from Michael Clarke. His autobiography confirms to the reader his relentless work ethic and his positivity towards the game of cricket. Very few captains moved the game as much as Michael and it was always entertaining to see his field settings for batsmen.I was fortunate to watch Michael in live his debut test and one of his last few games and am very grateful for the experience. Thanks Pup!

Look this isn't my first review, so Im putting my best foot forward and grabbing it by the throat!...so to speak.

I opened it but to be honest I only lasted until about the mid 30s before I had to go out. Michael clearly hadn't done his homework, and the book has less highlights than his hair. No surprises that it is only available as a soft cover.

Overall: would not recommend tot he boys.

As usual, Gibson offers a richly imagined tale that finds semi-innocents wading hip-deep into trouble. Colin Laney has taken a job in Japan to escape the revenge of his former employer, Slitscan, a kind of corporate gossip-mongerer on the Net that he has crossed out of scruples. Meanwhile, Chia Pet McKenzie is active in the fan clubs for Lo/Rez, a Japanese superstar rock duo; while visiting Japan to investigate some new rumors about the group, she is used to smuggle illegal nanoware to the Russian criminal underground. Colin Laney has a gift very much in demand. He can see well-hidden secrets through "nodal points" in the digital wake of commerce. In the not-so-distant future, fame and fortune and their analogs, scandal and ruin, are the true binding agents in a fractured, ungovernable world. Fired from his television tabloid job for an indiscretion, Laney is hired by the manager of the superpopular band Lo/Rez to go to post-earthquake Tokyo and divine the meaning behind singer Lo's intention to marry an idoru?a sort of a semi-sentient hologram. In alternating chapters, Chia, deeply involved in the Seattle chapter of the Lo/Rez fan club, picks up word of Lo's intentions over a computer network and is sent to investigate. On the way, she acts as the unwitting mule for a smuggler and winds up holding some very dangerous information. Though the plotting is weak and obvious, Gibson's writing is thick with atmosphere, dislocating the reader with a future that is both familiar and unsettling. This is my fourth or fifth time through the "Bridge" trilogy. I seem to get more from it each time through. Worth re-reading.
