Supply chain management is growing both as a research subject and as a crucial field of importance across Organizations. Let me take this opportunity to share my review and feedback on a book ‘Demand Planning with SAP APO - Concepts and Design’ - Authored by Avijit Dutta & Shreekant Shiralkar.

I am an APO Professional working in SAP APO environment for more than twelve years. It gives me immense pleasure to write in recommendation of this book considering the subject and practical approach demonstrated with examples in the demand planning.

The outcome of this book, originates with authors’ extensive subject competence gained through years in Information Technology and SAP Business Consulting world in conjunction with their Industry experience.
The book begins by discussing key aspects of SCM along with SCM solutions supporting an integrated supply chain management framework that improve supply chain performance. The book very well articulates Basic and advanced concepts in APO Demand Planning (DP) and Business warehouse (BW) in connection with ERP Configuration. This book is awesome and recommend for anyone who wants to start career in APO - DP and good for everyone.

This book is awesome. In fact, it’s more than just a book as it’s bound to become my companion. This book certainly sets a benchmark as to how SAP APO DP should be communicated and implemented.
Authors have done a splendid work in bringing a fine balance of concepts, business rationale and the hands-on approach to learn as well as implement APO DP. The unique process flow diagram is mind blowing that consolidates the entire DP. I have never come across such innovations in book. The diligent and detailed methods in which the screen shots are explained are equally great. This book also sets a very wonderful context of SCM, SAP SCM, SAP APO where DP fits in. Overall the book is full of business examples, diagrams, step-by-step screen shots and a holistic approach in APO DP.
I am more than sure to derive repeat value out of this book.
This book not only has the potential to create APO DP professionals but also will enrich the knowledge of existing APO DP professionals.

Brian Hawkins (Los Angeles, CA) began his career doing research at JustSystem Pittsburgh Research Center where he focused on scripted character animation using natural language. He worked at Activision as the game core lead on Star Trek: Armada and contributed to Civilization: Call to Power and Call to Power 2. He also worked for Seven Studios as lead programmer on Defender and now operates his own development company, Soma Inc. He holds a BS in mathematics and computer science from Carnegie Mellon University and is the author of Preventative Programming Techniques.

A very disappointing and vague book for the game developer

This book is OK at discussing real-time cinematography techniques in general. It is not good at all at tying it into something that can be incorporated into games. There are no algorithms, no mention of what specific software packages or scripting languages to use for specific techniques, and absolutely no math. Every time the book gets to a point where it would need to get into details, it just refers you to some other book. Usually, it's a different book every time, so to follow the author's directions you would wind up with an armful of books besides this one. Thus, this book is really just an introductory novel on the theme of real-time cinematography with the "for Games" thrown into the title to hook the game programmer/developer into purchasing it. The problem is, there really isn't a great book on this topic, although "Digital Lighting and Rendering" by Birn comes close. For a book on image processing with more of a mathematical touch you could look at "Digital Image Processing with Application to Digital Cinema", although that book doesn't get into real-time issues or games at all.

About the Author
Richard Jones�is Professor of Computer Systems at the School of Computing, University of Kent, Canterbury. He received a BA in Mathematics from Oxford University in 1976. He spent a few years teaching before returning to higher education at the University of Kent, where he has remained ever since, receiving an MSc in Computer Science in 1989.Antony Hosking�is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University, West Lafayette. He received a BSc in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 1985, and an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, in 1987. He continued his graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, receiving a PhD in Computer Science in 1995.Eliot Moss is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He received a BSEE in 1975, MSEE in 1978, and PhD in Computer Science in 1981, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. After four years of military service, he joined the Computer Science faculty at the University of Mas- sachusetts Amherst.

I seriously doubt anyone can read all the way through this book without picking up 10 or 15 different pieces of information that could help you nail an interview, network like crazy, or land and negotiate job offers. However some people will benefit much more.

It should be noted that this book is truly a playbook. Which I take to mean that you don't necessarily have to read back to front. It also means it covers a lot of ground and doesn't go into any one subject area too deeply (as many of the other reviews have noted) However, what I found in the book is that you could take any piece of a job search process starting with career choice all the way to job offer and find something that would give you specific steps to pursue and good solid how to advice.

Ok so who's it not for:

-It's definitely not for people who are out of touch with the modern world, In reading some of the other reviewers there seemed to be a lot of "same advice dressed up for newer times". It's clear to me that those people missed the subtleties that were in that "dressing". Much the same way that if I watched something that i know nothing about, like showing horses, it would just look like somebody parading horses around, but I'm very sure there's quite a bit going on there that I'm clueless about. People who aren't in tune with today will miss those subtleties, so don't waste your time if that is you.
- It's also not for people looking to dive incredibly deep into one of these areas. It works well if you want to flip open a section and get immediate help in that area but not if you are the type of person who needs absolutely everthing spelled out for them in each area. You will have to figure some things out on your own (which for most people this is ok)
-It's not for you if you have serious issues that make you unemployable (or less employable), seek out a counselor for those instead.

It is for you if:

-You're looking for a good solid playbook that has specific examples, exercises, to dos, checklists and other ways to make a difficult process much easier.
- You are in your first 25 years of your career (could be helpful in the last 20 years too, but for sure on the front side it will save you a lot of time)
- You are looking for a one stop reference guide for each step as you go along.
- You are looking for solid advice, based on experience (i've personally used a lot of the stuff that this book talks about and gotten many jobs, promotions and job offers over other people that had more qualifications or experience)

It's particularly good for you if you're in a professional (or want to be in a professional) environment or if you don't want to learn all this stuff yourself the hard way!

Overall - Highly recommend, purely because $20 for this book is a deal when you count the number of things that you will put to use in a career search.

A true career playbook

This is a true playbook for your next career move. I sat down to passively read while traveling, maybe pickup a few tips along the way - but quickly found myself pen in hand, working through the worksheets and thought experiments presented here. This is my new go to gift for friends looking to make a transition (and new grads)! Well done!

Career advice that will change your life!

This book is going to change lives. I've been getting career advice from TheMuse.com for some time and this book is even more helpful than the site! It's super well organized and has really practical advice for how to create a stellar LinkedIn profile, how to utilize your network (even people you don't know that well), how to write the best resume and cover letter possible, and how to market yourself for the next stage in your career. You might think you're stuck doing what you're doing, or that nobody will want to hire you for your dream job, but with this advice it will be possible! It's a total game changer. I already know two people I'm going to give this as gifts. Anyone in your life who wants to move the next stage in their career, or wants to get more out of their career/change it would benefit from reading this book, no matter what stage of life they are in.

About the Author
Mark Elwood is an epidemiologist with particular interests in cancer prevention, screening, and evidence-based medicine. He has worked in three continents and trained in Belfast, in Ottawa and at Harvard. He has recently returned to the British Columbia Cancer Agency, Vancouver, where he was the first Head of Epidemiology. He has been Professor of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Nottingham, UK and Director of the National Cancer Control Initiative in Australia. His research has focused on the prevention and early diagnosis of cancers and birth defects, the evaluation of clinical and public health interventions, and the evaluation of environmental hazards. Professor Elwood is the author of several books and over 250 scientific papers.

One of my favorites

this is an excellent book for advanced epidemiology students who want to find approaches to critiquing observational and experimental studies. The book does an excellent job walking through the logic of causation and finding threats to the validity of proposed causal relationships found in the medical literature. Studying this book will provide a strong foundation for being able to (as the title says) critically appraise epidemiological studies. Author also finds some wonderful studies to critique in detail.
