love her books!

Alpha male, independent woman, smoldering attraction, loyal friends, and illegal dog fighting ring keeps the story hopping, and the tale intriguing.
I am a huge fan of the Australian author, Angela Verdenius, and her BBW books, that she has written several series about. This book, Gully's Fall #5, is part of one of those series, but not a BBW (big, beautiful women) story. Yet, as enjoyable, fun, and delightful as the other stories have been.
The group of friends is tight, loyal, and steady. You can always count on them, to be there for you to hang out, celebrate, protect, stand by you, or rip you a new one. The bickering between them is brilliantly written, hilarious, and always manages to make me smile.
This story also has elements of danger and suspense. As a romantic suspense fan, I appreciated the way the suspense was set into the tale, the danger and surprises coming, and keeping the reader on the edge.
Del has watched her best friends fall in love, and now it was finally her turn. Moz is perfect for her, and the chemistry they have in between them, was scorching hot. Del being so opinionated, stubborn, and loud with her mouth, I loved how Moz embrace her as she is, accepted her just the way she was, not trying to change her, just to keep her happy and safe. Not an easy job always, to keep her safe, that is. Moz is a true alpha, protective, controlling to the point, intimidated just by his size, but he has a kind, caring heart and mind, he is loving towards Del, and the man loves his cat, and to cook, and bake! I loved how their relationship developed, how Moz gave Del time to adjust into it. They had so much more going on than just the physical attraction, the ease they had with each other, and how they took care of each other, just made me swoon.
Rowdy, yet a loyal group of friends, romance that makes you smile, shed a tear, and sigh so deep, danger that takes you by surprise, and adorable cats all over the place, I love it!

5-Moz-is-mine-hands-off-STARS!

You're the One is the fifth book in the Gully's Fall series and it's unique in that our heroine, Del, isn't a BBW.

In recent years A.V. has focused her funny and sexy romances on curvy heroines and hunky, working class men. But Miss Delia has been one of the key members of this endearing, amazing and hilarious tribe of Gully's Fall and it would have been a crime to not give her a happily ever after just because she's not overweight. Del is who she is and we love her.

Her HEA rests in the heart of a huge bear of a man, Moz Baylon, the local RSPCA inspector and brother to Elissa (heroine of book #4). He's also got a heart of gold and a protective streak as wide as the Pacific Ocean--this causes independent Del to chafe a bit, but Moz has just cause to worry. Del's living next to one of the shadiest guys in town and his friends are even shadier.

While Moz is trying to keep Del safe he's also trying to single-handedly save the area's mistreated and neglected animals and also bust up a nasty, secret dog-fighting ring. Did I mention that I love Moz? Because I do. I'm in love with Moz and I'm sad that he's not real.

In recent books, Angela Verdenius has kicked the suspense up a notch. This in no way comes close to being Romantic Suspense, but the complete, light-hearted fun of past books has been morphed into having a few nasty characters that cause outside conflicts and I LOVE IT! This book has a great outside conflict and is my favorite to date.

Also, it's worth mentioning that these books all have the feature of funny banter/bickering that sometimes rides the line of too much bicker. But You're the One had the perfect amount and made me laugh. If I had one complaint it would be that I'm a smidge tired of the heroes' empty, repeated threats of spankings. It seems like all of them do it and Moz did it extra. But I still don't care, I LOVE MOZ and he can threaten to spank my big ol' behind any day.

Good Read

Great story. Great come back. Book 4 was a bit disappointing a bit of a snore. This one totally makes up for it. Moz is the man. What a great guy. Now I want to go guy watching see if I can find one built like a brick shhh house! Whew! As usual love the guys. Love the banter between them. I don't know who was the inspiration for Ryder's character but he is hilarious. Guess there was no saving Brand Dawson huh? He was just determined to keep doing the wrong things. I'm glad Jason decided to change his life. I wonder if Ms.Verdenius will let us know what happened with him. If for some reason he comes back to Gully's Fall. Anyway Grant seems to fit in well with the guys. I hope he and Farris get a story. The girls have gotten better but what happened to Molly? Either she's not getting enough sex and someone needs to tell Kirk or she's getting too much and Kirk has banged her brains out. Del was starting to get on my nerve going up against those guys who were obviously dangerous. It was like she was daring them to hurt her. I didn't mind when Cutter and Fritz got a hold of her. She needed to be taught a lesson. Get scared a little. Learn a lesson about shooting her mouth off. That's the one thing I didn't like about her and Dee. unnecessarily mouthy.

The wry, peppery dialogue is simply great ("Look, Shorty, I've been quack-quacked here, moo-mooed there, and clucked-clucked everywhere all over this farm" ), and Palatini's allusions to popular children's stories from The Wizard of Oz to the "Three Little Pigs" will delight kids. So much fun for kids and parents too!

I am a children's librarian and an important part of my job is to find picture books to read aloud during our story hours. Three important criteria used to select a picture book to read to a group of children are: 1) Does the reader have fun with the story? And will they be able to convey this enthusiasm to the audience? 2) Will the children be enjoying the story? and 3) Are the pictures pleasing to the eye? Piggie Pie by Margie Palatini results in a very enthusiastic YES! to all three of these criteria.

Gritch the Witch is hungry. After deciding she wants to make piggie pie, but has no pigs handy, she begins her quest to find piggies. Upon arriving on Old MacDonald's farm, she spots some delicious looking piggies as she's flying on her broom over the farm. However, when she lands, there isn't a piggie to be found. The piggies are on to her and are disguised in a VERY clever manner, so she won't notice them. Will she find out? What will happen next?

When I read this in one of my story hours, the children (who ranged from toddler age to about 5 years old) were VERY into the story. This book also has that wonderful ability to make adults laugh as well, with some references to other tales and clever pictures. A person who loves to use different voices (such as a screechy witch voice) will have a field day reading this book aloud to children.

This book comes with my very enthusiastic recommendation. Enjoy!

This picture book makes a wonderful read aloud but I would suggest small groups so children can view the humor in the illustrations. The humor, wordplay, and references to other fairy tales and Mother Goose rhymes make this book suitable for a variety of age levels.

Pigs Outsmart Gritch the Witch!!

What do you do when you want Piggie Pie for breakfast and you are out of piggies? If you are Gritch the Witch, you hop on your broomstick and head for Old MacDonald's farm, which is exactly what happens in the story Piggie Pie! by Margie Palatini. However, these piggies are too smart for Gritch and thwart her attempt to find them by donning costumes of other animals and pretending that there are "No piggies" at Old MacDonald's farm. Any child who hears this story will need to catch his breath from
laughing so hard as Gritch the Witch becomes more frustrated and excited as each page turns. The laughter will reach a crescendo when Gritch meets Mr. Wolf and they each have their own plan for lunch.
Librarians will have to arm wrestle each other to see who gets to be the one to read this story at a story time program. Each page is ripe with numerous opportunities to try out various voices of each of the animals. Howard Fine's illustrations are an integral part of the story because they clarify how the piggies fool Gritch. By the end of this delightfully funny story all who hear it will be rolling in the aisles!

About the Author

David Howard is the founding director of the graduate screenwriting program at USC, where he teaches various courses in screenwriting. His students have scripted such successful films as The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Air Force One, Permanent Midnight, and Natural Born Killers. The coauthor (with Edward Mabley) of The Tools of Screenwriting, he lives in Los Angeles, California.

This is THE Screenwriting Book, bar none.

This book is a 2 semester, graduate course in screenplay writing. It is the best in print. To cover so much material in a single book is amazing, and a first. Supplement it with "Advanced Writing" by Wells Draughon, "Writing a Great Movie," by Jeff Kitchen, and "Screenwriting" by Paul Gulino, and you have everything you need to write a superb screenplay. "How to Build a Great Screenplay" can stand on its own. The others will help you control your story to get every bit of energy into making a taut story. But the breadth of Howard's book stands head-and-shoulders above everything else in print. An amazing book. Thank you, David Howard. A superb book!

Good book.

This book covers a lot of info; however, it seems as if some of it could be wittled away and the core of the book would still be intact. Also it seems to reference his other book way to much.

Could've been a 1 page pamphlet instead of a book!

After reading this long book filled with filler words, nonsense rhetoric and uninspiring stories...I was so ANGRY, I felt there should be a law forcing How-to-book authors to include a chapter that actually synopsis and list what you will actually learn from their books... You can probably sum up what you will learn from this book in 1 to 2 pages.

Over 400 pages to say so little... I learned more about screenplay writing from "First Time Director..." by Gil Bettman than in this book.

Mr. Howard's book reminds me of those horrible college text books written by your college professors that you are forced to read. If Mr. Howard was to tell you how to input a book title on top to search for a book here in Amazon... he would probably take 3 chapters to do it.

By the time I got to page 401, I just had to laugh... He says, "You know you can't be boring for too long, and, ideally, you want to be far from boring; you want your stories to be exciting, riveting, can't-take-your-eyes-away thrilling." - Even that sentence shows how wordy he is. How these books get publish...? I have no idea! Reminds me of people who surround themselves around people who never tell them the truth... cause if he had, I'm sure at least one true friend would've tell him the book has major flaws!

You don't learn much about the author, you learn less about the business. It's almost like he assumes his readers are total idiots. This is sad; because I'm sure Mr. Howard is a great man, with a lot to teach... and his book did not come across that way... could be the editor.

Here's a suggestion, why not try to write the book again... and this time get a psychologist to assist you to stay focus and REALLY speak from the heart? (Not an insult but an actual honest suggestion)

I would buy it, since I believe he might have something great to say, if he only stop talking long enough to get to the heart of things.
