Poor sources from limited research, written with few objective fact sand almost all opinion (not credible)

Most of the book is written based on opinion, and extreme statements are made based off of very limited and insufficient research or experiments. Upon tracing the references listed, you will be led to a dead end (a source that is ambiguous and will NOT lead you to the source she made her extreme claims from. Be wary, don't be gullible, regardless if some writers and reviewers are accredited, that does not mean what they write will be accurate. The chapter on alcohol and fluoridation/water (bottled too), will show clearly what side she's on for they are written with an impossible to ignore subjective view, and not objective, as facts should be (that's what makes them facts and not opinions). Very conflicting information than other nutrition sources. On the bright side I liked the use of pictures as well as the organization of the book.

This is a great book To learn more about nutrition or two he was in a nutrition or health class. There are many graphs, surveys, and studies that are very helpful. It shows many different cultures ways of life, and modern America. This can be very helpful if you want to learn the basics of nutrition, having a healthy lifestyle, and different diets and ways of eating. This is a great book and has been very useful in my nutrition and health class. I would reccomend.

My dad bought this book for me on my kindle fire HD. I think that it was the best book from The Puppy Place books. Because it is very exciting and kids like me will love it.

My 10-year-old 5th grader, reading at about a 7th-grade level now, *still* loves these books, even though they are more for a 2nd-grade reading and comprehension level. She still finds the stories extremely sweet, little harmless fantasies about how problems can get solved, and puppies' cuteness can be truly appreciated. Reads each one in about 20 minutes now.... We must have at least twenty of these books. I appreciate that it gives her something to read that is not plunging her into material unnecessarily "mature" for her (like Twilight, for example), just because she has a high reading level.

About the Author
James N. Danziger is Professor�of Political Science�at the University of California, Irvine, where he also has served as Chair of the Department of Political Science, campus-wide Dean of Undergraduate Education, Chair of the Academic Senate, and Associate Director of the Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations. He is recipient of many honors and awards, including a Marshall Scholarship (to Great Britain), a Foreign Area Fellowship, Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, Phi Beta Kappa, and an IBM Faculty Award. He received the first UC Irvine Distinguished Faculty Lectureship Award for Teaching in 1987 and the UC Irvine Distinguished Service Award in 1997. His Ph.D. is from Stanford University, and he has held visiting appointments at the universities of Aarhus (Denmark), Pittsburgh, and Virginia. His research has received awards from the American Political Science Association and the American Society for Public Administration. He has published extensively, particularly on information technology and politics, and he is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Electronic Government Research. He has also been an active participant in local politics.

Useful, accessible, and interesting

Over the past decade, I have taught the Intro. to Political Science (201) course several times at my local community college - despite the name of the course, it is often the second course students take, after the Intro. to American Government (101) course. I look forward to teaching it again, perhaps in this coming year. I have always used an edition of Danziger's text, and this latest incarnation will continue to be my choice.

This book introduces the basic elements of political philosophy, political theory, political parties, world politics and international relations, and political institutions. The first chapter sets the stage for the study of political science as a field of inquiry, helping to determine what is and is not an appropriately political question (as opposed to a psychological question, or an historical question, etc.). Obviously there will be overlap in disciplines, but this chapter does a good job at setting out some basic elements in what we know and how we know it with regard to politics.

The book then proceeds to discuss the topic in four major headings: political behaviour, political systems, political processes, and politics among states. For my purposes, I start with the later sections of world politics and work back - I find that students relate to the theories better after we've discussed particulars; this book is good at bringing up important elements and parallels across national lines, political parties, and cultural norms. This latest edition includes updated information on the Iraqi processes toward democracy, Chilean situations with the Mapuche people, Ireland's shift from economic dynamo to struggling economy, and the changing face of both China and the European Union in the modern world. To this extent, I'm working backwards from the way the book is organized, but each chapter does work as a self-contained set of data.

The book is generously supplied with graphics, images, charts and figures, as well as sidebar and boxed information that adds anecdotes, debates and useful discussion points and questions for further thought.

Ultimately, as Danziger states, `The study of the political world is of crucial importance to the creation of humane social life. Ultimately it is up to you, as you read this book, to decide what can be known about politics and whether you think political "science" is feasible.'

In 1986, the Steger International Polar Expedition, comprised of seven men and one wom an, started for the pole with 3 tons of supplies, pulled by dogsled and human muscle; 55 days later, they reached the North Pole. North to the Pole is the story of not only those 55 days, but also of the planning and preparation that went into the expedition. It is also the story of the expedition members them selves and of the spirit and will power that drives people onward over terrain so treacherous that an entire day's march could cover as little as one and a half miles. That the spirit of adventure and human determination are alive and well is the message of this book. Feel the Cold

This book gives you a real feeling of what it's like to be in the Arctic, trying to reach the North Pole. The feeling of intense cold is particularly well rendered, by one who lived through it. Under conditions of intense cold, even the simplest action, such as attaching velcro strips of gloves to one another, takes so much "warm up" action and so much focused attention -- and if you fail, you've got to start all over again with running around in circles or jumping up and down in order to warm up your fingertips enough to allow you to perform small actions such as attaching velcro strips to one another. A very worthwhile read, even if you never intend to visit the Arctic under these conditions.

Too few adventurers left.

There are too few adventurers left. Will Serger and expedition crew chose to take on a challenge that few would dare or consider. preparation for such a challenge can only take you so far. One must be able to think on one's feet to overcome obstacles along the way. This book chronicles such feats. it is a good read for both the armchair adventurer and the wannabe adventurer.
